Free and cheaper alternatives to paid interview copilots
Find the paid tool you were looking at. We show what it costs, what its free plan leaves out, and the cheapest sensible move instead.
Updated October 31, 2026. Rival prices verified October 2026.
You looked at a paid interview copilot, saw the price and closed the tab. This page goes one paid tool at a time and gives you the cheapest move that still helps on a live call, using prices read on each vendor’s own site as of October 31, 2026. We did not buy any rival plan, and where a vendor does not say something, we write “not stated”.
The short answer depends on where you came from. Final Round AI and Interview Coder give no live AI help for free, so you need another tool on the day. Cluely’s free plan does not hide from a screen share, and neither does its $19.99 Pro plan. LockedIn AI gives many free minutes a day, in short pieces and with no hiding. ParakeetAI’s free amount is bigger than ours. Once your interview runs past a free session, a one-off payment usually beats a monthly plan.
Full disclosure: PiriPiri AI is our product. It is ranked first and we make the case for it plainly, but every other tool’s price on this page is its own published price, linked to the page we read it from, so you can check each one yourself.

Final Round AI: the free and cheaper alternatives
Final Round AI shows its Pro plan as $25 and up a month, with “Save up to 40%” beside it. The exact tiers sit behind a link we could not read, so treat $25 as the lowest figure shown. The billing term behind it is not stated on the pages we read.
The free plan is a prep plan. You get Goals with your resume and materials, job description parsing, a prep checklist and the desktop app, but no live help: “live sessions need an active Pro subscription”. There is no free trial either, so you cannot hear the live copilot on your own call before you pay.
Stay with it if you already pay for Pro and have a steady run of rounds. Of the five tools this page is built around, $25 is the lowest monthly fee we could read that includes hiding. On a Mac, capturing meeting audio needs macOS 14.4 or later.
The cheap move has two parts. Keep the free plan if you like its prep tools, since nothing stops you using something else on the day. Then get live help elsewhere. To test it for free, try ParakeetAI or Linkjob AI on a practice call. For the real interview, the closest cheaper alternative to Final Round AI is a one-off payment. Ophy AI’s pass is $9.99 for one session of up to two hours, and PiriPiri AI is about $2.50 an interview on the entry pack.
Cluely: free alternatives for interviews
Cluely Pro is $19.99 a month. Hiding from a screen share sits on one tier only, at $149.99 a month. So if a shared screen is part of your interview, the price to compare is $149.99, about seven and a half times the Pro price by our arithmetic.
The free Starter plan offers “Limited AI responses”, “Limited meeting notetaking” and up to 3 files. Cluely does not publish the exact limits, so you cannot plan a call around them, and how the plan behaves in an interview is not stated. It does not hide from a screen share.
Stay with Cluely if you want one helper for every kind of meeting and rarely share your screen. Its download page lists Macs back to macOS 10.15 but only Windows 11.
If you came here looking for Cluely alternatives for interview use, the thing to fix is the price of hiding. PiriPiri AI includes it on every plan and in the free trial. ParakeetAI’s own privacy page describes hiding for its desktop app, though whether every privacy feature works on a free session is not stated. Either one lets you run a test share at no cost.
Free apps that use your own AI key are a further route, and one of them, Natively, is source-available (you can read its code, but its licence is not open source) and leaves resume and job description context out of its free version. We ran and tested none of these apps, so we vouch for none, and our page on free AI interview assistants covers them.
LockedIn AI: a free alternative, or its own free plan
LockedIn AI’s Unlimited Pro plan is $119.99 a month, or $79.99 a month billed every three months, which is $239.97 at once by our arithmetic. It also sells an Unlimited General plan with no Stealth Mode, plus credit and lifetime plans. Those prices did not show when we read the page, so look at them yourself, because one may be cheaper.
Its free plan is generous with time. You get unlimited 5-minute sessions, up to 60 free minutes a day, a 1-minute pause between sessions, and no card. Resume and career tools are free on any plan. Two things are left out. Stealth Mode needs a paid plan, so on a screen share the free app is not hidden. And on a 45-minute call, as an example, you would hit that pause seven times by our count, each one a minute with no help.
Stay with a paid plan if you have many rounds ahead and want Stealth Mode. Its site also lists iOS and Android apps, which we do not have.
The honest free alternative to LockedIn AI is often LockedIn AI itself. If your round has no screen share and you mostly want help when your mind goes blank, the free plan may be all you need. If you do share your screen, you want a tool where hiding comes with the plan you are on. PiriPiri AI includes it in the free trial, and a paid session has no 5-minute stops.
ParakeetAI: a free alternative may not beat its own free tier
ParakeetAI sells credits, and one credit covers an hour. One is $38, three are $59, eight are $118 and fifteen are $177, which brings an hour down to $11.80. Unlimited plans run $78 a week, $149.90 a month or $599.90 a year. Those are US prices, and its India page differs.
Its free offer is bigger than ours, so it is the natural first stop if free minutes are what you care about most. What it leaves out is one long unbroken session. You can start a new one every 12 minutes, so as we read it a full session leaves a gap of about two minutes. Whether every privacy feature works on a free session is not stated, so run a test share before you trust it.
Stay with ParakeetAI if you have a long run of interviews and want the 15-credit rate, or one packed week where $78 for unlimited use makes sense. It also has a browser version, which we do not.
So if you searched for a free ParakeetAI alternative because $38 is a lot for one call, start with its own free sessions. They cost nothing and will show how it works on your computer. If you then need a full hour, compare Ophy AI’s $9.99 pass for up to two hours, or a 60-minute session of PiriPiri AI on the entry pack.
Interview Coder: a free alternative for coding rounds
Interview Coder is the most expensive tool here. Monthly Pro is $299 a month with 1,000 usage credits, and Lifetime Pro is $799 once. By our arithmetic, lifetime becomes the cheaper of the two in the third month, because three months cost $897.
The free part is a download. You can open the app and look around, but “To use AI features, a subscription is required.” So you cannot judge a single answer before you pay.
Stay with it if you already own Lifetime Pro, or if you have used it and know you will rely on it through a long search. The page we read does not say what one credit buys, so we cannot tell you how far 1,000 go.
The closest free test is Linkjob AI, whose trial covers coding on basic AI models. Be careful with Ophy AI here. Its cheap pass does not cover its Coding Interview feature, which needs Premium at $59 a month, though that is still under a fifth of $299. PiriPiri AI has an Analyze screen hotkey that reads a coding problem on your screen. For a short search with a few coding rounds, that is the cheapest of the three.
The ranking
1. PiriPiri AI: pay once for the interview you have
Pricing: $2.50 / hour · one price per session
Free to try: 3 sessions free · no card
Hidden on screen share: Included on every plan
Runs on: Desktop app for macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows 10 or 11
A monthly subscription can cost too much if you only have one or two interviews. PiriPiri AI is priced per interview, so someone with one round on Thursday pays for one round. You buy one-time packs that never expire, at about $2.50 per interview on the entry pack and about $1.45 per session on the largest. The smallest pack holds more than one session, so your first payment is a little more than one interview’s price.
It suits Final Round AI users who want to hear live help before paying, Cluely and LockedIn AI users who were priced out of hiding, and Interview Coder users with a few coding rounds.
During a call it listens on your own computer, so no bot joins the meeting. It shows a transcript of both speakers and a draft answer in a bar only you can see, drawing on the CV and job description you added. The operating system keeps the bar out of screen capture, but the meeting app does the capturing, so check it yourself.
That check is the best use of the 3 free sessions of 10 minutes each. They work on any call but are too short for a full round, so we suggest a test call with a friend first.
Best for: People leaving Final Round AI, LockedIn AI or Interview Coder because a monthly bill makes no sense for a few interviews held in English.
Worth knowing: It needs an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 14.2 or later, or 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, with no phone, browser or Intel Mac version, and speech recognition is English only. We are a newer company with little independent review so far, and an international card is charged the equivalent in Indian rupees, so your bank may add a small fee.
2. ParakeetAI: try before you pay, for Final Round AI and Cluely users
Pricing: $38 per 1-hr credit · $149.90/mo · $599.90/yr (source)
Free to try: 10 free sessions of 10 min
Hidden on screen share: Desktop app hidden by the OS
Runs on: macOS and Windows desktop app, plus a web app
ParakeetAI is the pick for Final Round AI users tired of paying before they can try. Final Round has no free live help. ParakeetAI lets you start a session from the dashboard or the desktop app with no card, so you can judge a live helper on your own call before any money moves.
It also fits Cluely users who found Cluely’s free limits too vague, because ParakeetAI states its limit as a number.
If you are already a ParakeetAI customer and the plans cost too much, two details help. Free sessions start over at 10 each time you buy credits, though unused ones do not carry over, and the $78 weekly plan suits one heavy week better than a month you will half use.
It is a weaker fit for someone who wants one cheap hour. The three-credit pack brings an hour to $19.67, but you pay $59 up front, which only works if you have three calls.
Best for: Final Round AI users who were asked to pay before trying anything, and Cluely users who want a free limit stated as a number.
Worth knowing: A single credit costs more than Final Round AI’s lowest shown monthly price, and whether every privacy feature works on a free session is not stated.
3. LockedIn AI: the free plan, for calls with no screen share
Pricing: $119.99/mo Pro · $79.99/mo quarterly (source)
Free to try: 5-min sessions · 60 min/day
Hidden on screen share: Stealth Mode, not on the General plan
Runs on: macOS and Windows desktop app, plus a web app
LockedIn AI ranks for one kind of reader: someone from Cluely or Final Round AI who will not share a screen in the call. On a voice or camera-only round the missing Stealth Mode does not matter. It also beats Cluely’s free plan for planning, because its daily limit is a stated number.
It suits a long search with no budget too. The free minutes come back each day, so they keep working across many short rounds. A Final Round AI user who wanted prep tools and live help in one free app gets both here.
It does not help someone leaving a paid LockedIn plan who still needs hiding, because that is the part the free plan keeps back.
Best for: Cluely and Final Round AI users whose rounds involve no screen share, and who are happy with help in short bursts.
Worth knowing: You cannot test the hidden window for free, and the 5-minute cap means a restart during any longer stretch of questions.
4. Ophy AI: a one-time pass for Final Round AI and LockedIn AI users
Pricing: $9.99 one-time pass · $29/mo Pro · $59/mo Premium (source)
Free to try: First session free (15 min)
Hidden on screen share: Desktop app hidden by the OS
Runs on: macOS and Windows desktop app, plus web and phone apps
Ophy AI is the closest match to what a Final Round AI user is buying, without the monthly bill. Its Interview Pass is one Standard Copilot session of up to two hours, so one long panel round fits inside one pass. Three passes cost $19.99, which saves $9.98 against three singles by our arithmetic.
For a LockedIn AI user the change is from many short pieces to one long sitting, at far less than a month of Pro.
It also covers some computers we do not. Ophy lists macOS 13 and later, plus iPhone, Android and web, so it is worth a look if your Mac cannot reach macOS 14.2.
Best for: Final Round AI and LockedIn AI users with one or two big interviews who want a single long session and do not need coding help.
Worth knowing: Passes are non-refundable and cover Interview Copilot only, so it is the wrong pick for Interview Coder users unless they take Premium at $59 a month.
5. Linkjob AI: a trial with coding, for Interview Coder users
Pricing: $99.99/mo · $29.99/mo billed annually (source)
Free to try: Free trial (basic models)
Hidden on screen share: Vendor claims it stays hidden
Runs on: macOS, Windows and Linux desktop app
Linkjob AI is here for the reader who came from Interview Coder, which shows you no AI until you pay. Linkjob’s FAQ says its trial covers all its features on basic AI models, and it names live interview help, coding and mock interviews. That makes it the cheapest way on this page to see AI work on a coding question.
After the trial it is $99.99 a month, or $69.99 a month billed quarterly at $209.97, or $29.99 a month billed yearly at $359.88. A full year costs only $60.88 more than one month of Interview Coder, by our arithmetic, but a year is a long bet on one job search. Better AI models sit only on the longer plans.
You can ask for more trial time on Discord or WhatsApp, though how much is not stated. The vendor says it cannot be spotted. We did not test that, so run your own test share.
Best for: Interview Coder users who want to see AI help on a coding problem at no cost, and people on Intel Macs or Linux, which PiriPiri AI does not support.
Worth knowing: The trial runs on basic AI models, so it will not show you the better models on the longer plans. Whether it needs a card is not stated.
When a one-off payment beats free
Free is the right answer when the help you need fits inside the free limit, such as a test call, a short screening call or a voice call with nothing on your screen. A one-off payment wins once your call runs past the free session, or once you need hiding the free plan keeps back. Take a 45-minute round. None of the free offers on this page covers it in one unbroken session.
Here is what one 60-minute interview costs at published prices, with the sums ours. PiriPiri AI is about $2.50 on the entry pack. Ophy AI is $9.99. ParakeetAI is $38. For the rest, the smallest purchase we could read is a month, so one interview costs a month. Final Round AI is from $25, Cluely is $19.99 with no hiding or $149.99 with it, Linkjob AI is $99.99, LockedIn AI Pro is $119.99 and Interview Coder is $299.
Now take four one-hour interviews in a month, an example we picked. PiriPiri AI comes to about $10 at the entry rate. Ophy AI comes to $29.98 with a three-pass buy plus a single, about the same as its $29 Pro plan. ParakeetAI comes to $97 with a three-credit pack plus a single credit. Final Round AI starts from $25, and Cluely, LockedIn AI, Linkjob AI and Interview Coder charge by the month. We could not confirm that each of those plans covers four one-hour interviews, so check before you compare.
A low monthly plan does start to make sense as interviews stack up. At our entry rate, Final Round AI’s lowest shown price equals about 10 interviews, so if your month really holds that many, a subscription is fair. We also have an optional monthly plan, shown on the pricing page.
What you lose by going free
Screen share hiding is the biggest loss. As of October 31, 2026, LockedIn AI’s free plan leaves it out and Cluely hides only at $149.99 a month. Where hiding is included, it is the vendor’s own claim, and no page we read gave independent proof of any such claim. Test a share in your own meeting app before you rely on one, ours included.
CV and job context comes next. A tool with your CV and the job description can draw on work you really did. Without them you get a general answer, and you have to rewrite it in your head while someone waits. Most free terms we read do not spell out if a free session reads your CV, so check during your test call by asking something only your CV could answer.
Then there is time. Every free session on this page has a cap, from 5 minutes up to 30, and a cap in the middle of a call has you starting a new session when you should be listening.
Answer quality can differ too. Linkjob AI’s trial keeps better models for longer plans, so a free answer may not match a paid one from the same tool. Paying does not promise a result, either. It buys time, and on some tools it buys hiding.
How to switch in an evening
You can do all of this in one evening, ideally a few days before the interview, so a failed test leaves time to fix it.
Start with the money. If you are on a paid plan, find your renewal date, cancel before it and read that vendor’s refund terms. Copy out anything you saved in the old tool first, and put it in one document with your CV and the job description.
Next, check your computer against the “Runs on” line in the ranking above, since this is where a switch can fail. On a Mac, see your chip and macOS version under About This Mac. Install the app and allow the microphone. On a Mac, also allow Screen & System Audio Recording so it can hear the other side, then quit and reopen it.
Now spend one free session on a real test. Call a friend on the meeting app you will use and have them read out a few questions. See if the transcript is right and the answers use your CV. Share your entire screen and ask what they can see. If the tool fails, it cost you nothing, and you can try the next one on the list.
Last, check the employer’s rules, because some ban these tools. ITPro reported in March 2025 that Amazon’s guidelines ask candidates not to use generative AI during interviews unless it is explicitly allowed, though we did not see the official text. Local consent and recording laws apply as well.
Common questions
Is there a free alternative to Final Round AI?
Yes, for short stretches. Its own free plan has no live help, but ParakeetAI, LockedIn AI and PiriPiri AI all offer some for free. All are capped, so for a full round the cheaper alternative is a one-off payment, such as Ophy AI’s $9.99 pass or PiriPiri AI at about $2.50 an interview on the entry pack.
What is the cheapest Cluely alternative for interviews?
If you need hiding on a screen share, Cluely charges $149.99 a month for it, while PiriPiri AI includes it at about $2.50 an interview on the entry pack. If your call has no screen share, LockedIn AI’s free plan costs nothing.
Is any free alternative to ParakeetAI better than its own free tier?
For most people, no. Its free time beats our 30 minutes. LockedIn AI gives more minutes a day, but in 5-minute pieces, and Linkjob AI’s 30-minute trial runs on basic models.
Is LockedIn AI’s free plan enough for a real interview?
It can be, if there is no screen share and you only want help now and then. A share would show it, and each session stops at 5 minutes.
Is there a free alternative to Interview Coder?
Interview Coder has a free download but no free AI. Linkjob AI’s trial includes coding on basic AI models, so it is the closest free test we found. Ophy AI’s cheap pass does not cover coding.
Should I just stay on a rival’s free tier?
Sometimes, yes. For a short call with no screen share, or to test how live help feels, a free tier may be all you need, and ParakeetAI and LockedIn AI both give more free time than we do. Pay when the call outlasts the free session or you need hiding the free plan leaves out.
