Installing it, start to finish
The whole thing takes about a minute, and the only part that needs any thought is the permissions step — PiriPiri AI has to be allowed to hear the call before it can help you with one.
On macOS
- Download the .dmg above and open it. The build is code-signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it normally — no Terminal commands, no right-click trick, no Gatekeeper warning.
- Drag PiriPiri AI into your Applications folder and launch it.
- Sign in with the same account you created on this site. The app opens your browser to log in and hands the session back.
- Say yes to Microphone, and to Screen & System Audio Recording when it asks. The second one is how it hears the interviewer — see below for exactly what it is used for.
- A slim bar appears on top of everything. Press ⌘⇧8 to start a session when your interview begins.
On Windows
- Download the .exe above and run it. Windows SmartScreen will warn you, because this build is not code-signed yet — click More info, then Run anyway.
- Sign in with the account you created on this site.
- Allow Microphone access, and when you start a session pick the meeting window in the share-audio prompt so PiriPiri AI can hear the other side of the call.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+8 to start a session, and use Ctrl+Arrow keys to park the bar in a corner.
What your computer needs
macOS: an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) on macOS 13 or newer. One caveat worth knowing before you install: hearing the interviewer uses an audio interface Apple only shipped in macOS 14.2. On macOS 13 the app runs and your own microphone is transcribed, but the other side of the call is not. If you are on 13, updating is the difference between half the conversation and all of it.
Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. The interviewer's audio comes through Windows' own share-audio picker, so there is no extra system permission to grant — but you do have to pick the right window when the prompt appears, or the app hears only you.
Both: a working internet connection. Transcription and the AI answers run on our servers, not on your laptop, which is why an eight-year-old machine keeps up with a live call just fine.
Why it asks for screen-recording permission
This is the step people pause on, so here is the plain version. macOS files system audio — the sound coming out of your speakers, which is the interviewer's voice — under the same permission as screen recording. There is no separate toggle for “let this app hear my calls”, so that is the one you grant.
PiriPiri AI uses it to read audio and nothing else. It holds no screen-recording session, which is also why a DRM-protected video does not black out while the app is running. An image of your screen is captured only in the one case where you ask for it — pressing the Analyze screen shortcut to have the AI read a coding question off your display.
And the overlay itself is excluded from screen capture at the operating-system level, on both macOS and Windows. Share your entire desktop and it simply is not in the picture — not in the share, not in a screenshot, not in a recording.

What do I need to run PiriPiri AI on a Mac?
A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 13 or newer. For PiriPiri AI to hear the interviewer as well as you, you need macOS 14.2 or newer — that is the first version with the audio API the app uses to listen to a call without recording your screen. On macOS 13 your own microphone still works, but the interviewer's side of the call is not transcribed.
Do I have to turn off Gatekeeper or run a Terminal command to open it?
No. The macOS build is code-signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens on first launch like any other app. Open the .dmg, drag PiriPiri AI into Applications, and launch it.
Why does Windows say "Windows protected your PC" when I install it?
The Windows build is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows that warning for any app it has not seen signed before. Click "More info", then "Run anyway" to continue. The macOS build is signed and notarized and shows no such warning.
What permissions does PiriPiri AI ask for, and why?
Two. Microphone, so it can hear you. And on macOS, screen-and-system-audio recording — that is the permission Apple files system audio under, and it is how PiriPiri AI hears the interviewer without a bot joining the call. It captures an image of your screen only when you press the Analyze screen shortcut yourself. On Windows the interviewer's audio is captured through the normal share-audio picker and needs no extra system permission.
Does the interviewer have to install anything?
No. Everything runs on your computer. No bot joins the meeting, there is no browser extension for anyone else to add, and the call looks completely normal from their side.
Will the overlay show up if I share my screen?
No. The overlay window is excluded from screen capture at the operating-system level, so it does not appear in Zoom, Google Meet, Teams screen shares, screenshots or screen recordings. You can share your whole desktop and still see it.
Do I need to pay before I can install it?
No. The download is free and there is no credit card at signup. Create an account, install the app, sign in with the same account, and you start with 3 free sessions of 10 minutes each of real-time interview help. You only buy a pack once you have used that up.
How do updates work?
The app checks for updates on its own and offers to install them — you do not need to come back to this page. When an update is ready an Update button appears in the overlay; clicking it installs and restarts the app.
How do I uninstall it?
On macOS, quit PiriPiri AI and drag it from Applications to the Trash. On Windows, remove it from Settings › Apps like any other program. Nothing is left running in the background. Your account and its stored transcripts live on our servers rather than on the machine, so removing the app does not delete them — ask us from the help page in your account and we will delete them.
